I learned that William Barrett Travis is better than that rabble down below, and that no one can say that he didn't buy every minute possible for Texas.
I learned that if your retreating toward the chapel and even though there are a bunch of enemies already inside it, don't worry, all but one will disappear when you reach the door.
I also learned that chastise does mean what I think it do.

I learned that Jocko had a large life insurance policy. Blind Nell made sure he was just as much a man as anyone else, then exit stage right. True love! Bob

That has to be one of the most embarrassing scenes I've ever viewed, even for a movie that has quite a few of them.

A couple of things I learned from the film:
Sam Houston gets a might orneray when he hasn't 'et
and
"You don't get lard lessen you boil the hog"
And one thing I already knew:
"Being in Congress has ruined many a good man!"

I learned that the Texans also had an arsenal of Trapdoor Springfields which they modified to look like flintlocks so the Mexicans wouldn't know.

I can't say that it is a stupid line, but the comment I was well known for whenever I had to attend a stupid staff meeting at Keesler Air Force Base was, "Gentlemen, I appreciate your thoughts, but the fly in the buttermilk is....."
Needless to say I drew that line from 'The Alamo'. Believe me, when you're having to explain what's wrong with a pig headed or regulation busting idea proffered by some numnut, it is a phrase that really works.
However, it became a very popular saying on Keesler and I quietly took credit and never revealed where it came from.

I can't say that it is a stupid line, but..... I think it is particularly revealing that we ourselves are getting confused between the "stupid line" thread and the "things I've learned" thread. ;D

I know. I felt super stupid when I clicked 'Post Reply' and saw where it went. All I can say is...it's been a long day.

Well, I guess learned from a couple of old Alamo movies that Davy Crockett was a really tall man (6'4 to 6'5) and towered over everyone even Gen. Houston. Also that he was a patriotic cowboy.

Rolling Block Remingtons? I never noticed that before, I guess I need to look more closely at the guns everybody is using.

I learned that Crockett had an amazing rifle--it could change, at once, from flint to percussion to rubber. Wow!
