Alan- Those were great ;D This begs a whole bunch of Alamo questions regarding Jocko and his religous background... Well, it was March and he might have been brushing up for Passover! and to signify the start of a war

"Seguin : Colonel, the Indians of San Blas have sent couriers to the vaqueros of my properties along the Sangre de Cristo. They say a large number of soldiers crossed the Baja Diablo two days ago."
There are several places named San Blas in Mexico, and everybody knows the Sangre de Cristo is in New Mexico, but I've been trying most of my life to figure out where this Baja Diablo was. I guess Jimmy Grant thought it sounded suitably Hispanic.

The Baja Diablo (if it refers to anything real, and I doubt it) would refer to the "Lower Devil's" River, which flows into the Rio Grande on the Texas side above modern Amistad Dam about fifteen miles north of Del Rio. Since it flows southwest, those soldiers were waaaaay off their path.
Like so much in the film, Grant was re-creating history -- into fiction.

I learned that during the first 11 days of the siege of the Alamo, the Mexicans fired only one cannon at the fort...and only once.

I certainly learned that frijoles and beans are NOT the same thing.... and that the Alamo is a comfortable horseback ride from Groce's Plantation -- even without getting down to use the porta-pottie!
...and that a teen idol can do the whole 400 mile round trip in three or four days!

The San Antonio River flows "down" in both directions from Bexar!

I just realized what those guys on "Mystery Science Theater 3000" would have done to this film!

I learned never to stand too close to Jim Bowie---he was always getting badly injured.

I learned that after your perimeter is breached and thousands of enemy soldiers are pouring into the compound, its perfectly fine to stand on a giant mound of earth under a big flag where everyone can see you. Those thousands of enemies won't shoot at you, they'll just send two guys on horseback to get you with swords.

I learned Jocko was some kinda Superman. He rode out of San Antonio together with Houston only to appear suddenly as part of the Alamo defenders.
