I'm 150 pages into a biography titled " The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt " by Edmund Morris. It's a well-researched, well-written, and well- organized book that covers the period of his life from birth to the assassination of President McKinley. Most presidents didn't grow up wanting to be president , Roosevelt being no different. This book examines the paths he went down that led him to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
The most interesting account I've read so far concerns the first time Theodore put on his glasses. He wrote in his journal " I had no idea how beautiful the world was until I got these spectacles". I knew Roosevelt had vision problems, but I was surprised to find out how serious those problems actually were.
For those interested in the lesser known details of Roosevelt's life before presidency I recommend this book.
