Well, wack me in the back of the head with a 2x4! Should have double checked Heitman who has him listed clearly as Robert. Also, double checked the SA City Council Records for 1848, and they have him as R.A. and the Wilson speach at the reburial refers to him as Ad. In the file was an 1900 artcile on the grave says Robert as well. I certainly will make sure of the correction in the future! Thanks. Hey, don't beat yourself up over it. While Gillespie's friends called him Robert and Add and he appeared under his first name and R.A. in official documents, he was misnamed Richard for a hundred years after his unfortunate death. I'm just glad authors and websites are finally getting the ranger's name correct, especially that Handbook of Texas On-line article.

And I am happy to help correct the problem! Just like those folks who insist that Sam Walker was a Texas Ranger when he was killed and that he was killed by a Mexican lancer!
