I’d like to follow-up on what Jim posted in another thread because it is important to emphasize – we’re all friends, here. The drama that was acted out in the Alamo - almost 174 years ago – evokes passions the likes of which I’ve never seen or experienced. We, for whatever reason(s), find ourselves inexplicably drawn to the myths, legends, the tall tales, as well as the legitimate history that make up the Alamo story. It’s been said many times on this forum and I’ll repeat it once more – the meaning and the message of the Alamo is interpreted differently from person to person, its lessons are subjective. Diversity of opinion will be expressed, emotions may rise, and as Jim says, the discussions can become a little heated. It’s true. We may butt heads, scrape, scrap, bark, and even hiss. But when the smoke clears and the dust settles we always find ourselves right back where we started – as friends. And that’s the way it should be. We may have widely different viewpoints, but we’re still able to shake hands and revel in our commonality – a love for the Alamo. As Abraham Lincoln once said: “though passions may have strained, we must not let it break our bonds of affection.”
This is an outstanding forum…second to none in my opinion. One of the crowning achievements of Alamo Studies is the civility and respect we extend to each other; even when we’re short tempered and testy. The credit for this success must go to the moderators, Jim, Herb, and Tom, who do a superb job of keeping us all in line and never allowing things to spin out of control – no easy task.
As Jim mentioned in his post, High Holy Days (HHD’s) in San Antonio are fast approaching. If you’ve never been to the annual gathering in Bexar, you should weave whatever magic you can and attend the 2010 celebration. It’s a cross between a family reunion and a non-stop party. It’s just not possible to be bored, but exhaustion… ;D
So who can I expect to see in San Antonio this year?

The wet bar will be open in my room on the 6th floor of the Crockett again this year, with an even crustier bunch in attendance than last year: John Noonan, his brother Mike, and my old Navy buddy and F-14 jockey, Gary Svatek will all be there.

I hear from Jim Donovan, of Little Big Horn acclaim, that he is coming.
Phil Collins will not be making it in March, due to his getting his latest album completed. He may come around April/May.

I'll be staying at the Marriott Residence Inn Downtown/Market Square, which is actually on Santa Rosa Blvd. Anyone else staying nearby? I use Marriott because I can use some of the points I earn while on the road with my day job.

Mark,
It will be good to see John, again, as well as meeting the other crusty guys, but what about some crusty ladies? ;D
Jim & Allen,
Ready for some pea soup and root beer? What's the name of that place...She-lows...Shy-lows??
Paul,
I'm looking forward to finally meeting you. How many days are you going to be in San Antonio?

Paul, I'm looking forward to finally meeting you. How many days are you going to be in San Antonio? Glenn Glenn, I'll be there from sometime Thursday, March 4, until sometime Monday morning, March 8. For me, it's about a five hour drive, more or less, from Dallas. I lived in San Antonio for a few years and still have a cousin living there, so we try to get down a few times a year. Looking forward to seeing all y'all in March. Paul

Hey gang,
Unfortunately at this point, I'm afraid I will not be able to join you all in San Antonio in March. But, I wish everyone has a wonderful time! I wish to see you all again in March, 2011, when by that time...I hope I'm living there!
All the best, Wade

Wade, Sorry to hear we won't be seeing you in San Antonio this go-round. It just won't be the same without "Travis" on duty. Glenn

Aw, c'mon Wade, turn in those bottles and cans, get a paper route, do what you gotta do, amigo, but git yer arse down to Baxar. You, as Travis, should know we need all the reinforcements we can get.
Seriously, I understand fully. I'll look forward to seeing you in 2011, or sooner. I may be on one of my instructor details in Tampa and West Palm Beach in late April. Are you anywhere near those citoes? If so, maybe we can hook up for a burger and a beer.

Hey guys. I prefer playing Bonham. I don't die immediately. Unfortunately, Tampa and West Palm Beach are a couple of hours away from me. I'm in Northeast Florida. Otherwise, maybe next time! Have fun guys! All the best, Wade
