My documentation for Mexican rockets at San Antonio in 1835 is a firsthand, unpublished Texian account. By the end of next year it will no longer be unpublished.

There are surviving lists of Mexican arms purchases from Britain (among among them plenty of rifles), but off-hand I don't recall rockets. Not to hijack the thread, but how many constitutes "plenty"? I've always been real curious about the Mexican Army's armament.

Just as a for-intance, there is one list of arms already possessed by Mexican troops just eight years before the Texas campaign that notes "2,000" rifles...aside from muskets and carbines, listed separately.

As some may or may not know, recent archeological excavations in close proximity to the Alamo have unearthed the brass portions of a Baker Rifle bayonet scabbard.

For those who want to find Osprey books about the Alamo, ect, one of the best places I've found is with the Borders bookstore chain. They usually have a large number of Osprey books on their shelves. Perhaps they have an agreement with Osprey? Either way they have a very selection of Osprey books on many military topics.

I found another very good book on the arms and equipment of the Alamo. It's "The Alamo Sourcebook, 1836". It has a lot of information on both the Texican and Mexican armies.

Alamo weapons ... Hand Grenades.. we know the Mexican units had grenadiers and would have been useful in the CQB of house to house/room clearance.....but then Texians use them in defense as well?

Grenadiers hadn't carried grenades for over a century before the Alamo - it was just a traditional title for one of the two preference (elite) companies.

Shoot! There goes my theory that the Mexicans had Nitro at the Alamo. (O.K. So I just watched the John Wayne movie! ;D)
