This is interesting Herb; I'd like to see that myself, and the source. An independent account like this would strengthen DLP's credibility and, as quoted here, clarifies the battle a bit more.

It's a certificate by Ampudia dated June 22 1836, reproduced in Hansen p435. The relevant bit describes how when Ducque went down DLP fetched Castrillon to take over, then "with bravery, climbed, in my sight, the palisade that formed part of the enclosure, and in the interior of the fort he fulfilled his duty like a good officer"
The testimony on the page following is also interesting, because Amat this time says he "...set the pattern of the attack and helped save victims (his fellow soldiers in the attack), the kinds of things that happen in the confusion of an attack." - this sounds a lot to me like a reference to Morales' men taking cover from Mexican fire
