I finally got around to renting the DVD release of "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford". A big thumbs up from me. I suspect that this film may be an aquired taste as it fairly long (nearly 3 hours) and somewhat leisurely paced, but I was captivated by the script, and the cinematography is breathtaking. It's certainly not a western in the conventional sense. It reminded me more of a Terrence Malick film like "The Thin Red Line". Any other listers seen this one yet? Jim

I liked this one a lot -- I agree that its not your typical Western though. Casey Affleck was outstanding, and very creepy, as Robert Ford -- I liked Brad Pitt's portrayal of Jesse a lot too. The train robbery at the beginning was excellent -- not the typical Western fare where the robbers ride down the train on horseback, with dramatic leaps from horse to train.
