I agree that Cos' defenses seemed more in tune defending against an artillery assault. But, since he controlled the vast majority of cannon in Texas, more than 20 guns, I wonder why he bothered. Of course, he needed to make work to keep 900+ soldier occupied and fortifying the only villiage and fort around made sense. Maybe he considered the possiblity of a "Nort Americano" seaborn invasion at Matamoros where heavy ship's cannon might be transported overland to attack his position. Writing this makes me wonder exactly what Cos was thinking. Has there been any research or did Cos leave any record or testimony of the events of 1835-6? He seems a long lost character in the Alamo saga that I would like to know more about. Any suggestions?
