The Library of Congress has three photos of the Veramendi house circa 1910 and three pages of typed notes from 1937 to accompany the photos. Go to the link, and click on the buttons toward the top left of the page for "3 b&w photos" and "3 data pages":
Not sure if this is the right place to ask but can anyone help me out with the Veramendi house in San Antonio ?
I am looking for pictures or photo's, size/dimensions and if possible construction materials, decor etc, anything really.
I wish to see it modelled but not had much luck surfing the web for specifications so i thought of just the folk to ask .

Go to http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/sanborn/s.html. These are the 1885 insurance maps for San Antonio. On Sheet 7 you will find the Veramendi House, middle of the block on Soledad on the river side, It is the only long thin building on the block, with the beer garden behind it, and also is the only the building whose facade is sticking out into the street. The north end of it faces Veramendi Street.

I can't find the Veramendi house. I'm pretty sure it's called something different on the map, but I don't see anything that looks like it has a courtyard either. Beginning at the corner of Commerce and Soledad, on the side of the street next to the river the list of buildings is: Bank Saloon & Billiards Vac S Pawnbroker Jewler County Courthouse Drugs Fruit & Produce Laundry Law Offices Saloon with beer garden Times Newspaper Carriage Repository,
and the last building on the corner of Soledad & Houston Groc (Grocery???) with offices above.
One of these must the be Veramendi house, but which one?
Are there any other buildings on the map that are significant?
Abbreviations - I think I figured out several of them. Sal = Saloon Off = Office Groc = Grocery B Sm = Black Smith Vac = vacant Mill'y = Millinary
But I'm not sure about the one that seems the most common, It might be Dn'g (Dining?) but then again it might be Dw'g (Dwelling?).
Some might not be aware that there are a total of 12 maps. You can access them by changing the number at the end of the website address in the address bar of your browser. For instance the map we've been looking at is number 7. Replace the "7" at the end of the address with a "2" and you'll see the map with the Alamo.

Paul-it is the law office and saloon building with beer garden. Notice how it sticks out in the street? When the newer buildings were built, they were constructed about 10 feet back to allow for widing the street. So, by the time this map was done, the Veramendi was the last original building. It is what sealed the historic buildings fate on 1910 when it was removed to finish is the widening of the street.
The de la Garza House/Garden and Mint is in block 54 just up the street. Torn down in 1912.
On the first map, over on th right side, you will find a color key which will tell you what buildings were made out of.

Courtesy Daughters of the Republic of Texas Library at the Alamo."
I've never seen a a layout of the rooms though. I wonder where they got the layout for the Dripping Springs movie set and was it accurate? I hope you can find the information you need.

Apologies for not replying sooner but not been on the forum for some time, real life etc. Anyway with all the help im hoping to have soon a rough model of this house in 28mm scale which someone very talented is making for me using the info you folk so generously supplied. If you wish photos i could maybe post them on here ? It really would not have happened without the help i got here.

All of Merricks drawings, including those of La Quinta and the Old Mill, as well as the rest of the Veramendi drawings have been published in Thompson, Jerry D., (Ed.). (1991). From Desert to Bayou: The Civil War Journal and Sketches of Morgan Wolfe Merrick. El Paso: Texas Western Press.
The originals are in the DRT Library at the Alamo.
There has been a indepth discussion on the Veramendi and the changes made to it over the years, before its destruction , over at John Wayne/Alamo site forum.
