This evening there was a posting on Facebook by a friend of Kevin Young's, from information provided by Kevin's wife,
"Dearest Friends - Kevin Young's beloved Cathy has asked us to convey the saddest of all news that Kevin passed away this afternoon. He appears to have not suffered but went quite suddenly. Cathy wants to invite all of you to a memorial party for Kevin sometime in June. We will want to send him off with all the things he loved best and details will be forthcoming. Let us all comfort each other, knowing that no one can ever fill his place. He will be mourned by so many, yet we all know exactly how he would want us to mark his passing. Please keep Cathy and Chelsea and Kevin's family in your thoughts and prayers. Sadly - William and Trisha Noack"
I don't know any more at this time. I'm still reeling from the news. Kevin was one of the people that got me deeply involved in the Alamo, and he was an irreplaceable help on "The Alamo Sourcebook". He was a mentor, an inspiration, a challenger, and most of all, a good friend. I don't have the words to say how much I will miss him.

I can't take this in. It's just too painful and heartbreaking shock. We've lost a great friend and a leading authority and scholar. Kevin will be terribly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

I saw the Facebook page and am still reeling from seeing all his very recent fun and serious posts get replaced with the information and comments.
I am in shock. I'm so glad he surprised me in the Alamo during 175 when I didn't know he was coming down. Spent some time with him over two or three days, but no quality time. Needed another campfire in front of the Waynamo, Kevin.
It is very shocking. I never met him in person, but he helped me a lot while I was writing my book. He was a great person and the world is a lot smaller without him. May God bless you, Kevin. You are missed.

Jeez! I'm stunned and saddened by this news. I just posted on the books page that I had found one of works at Half-Price. My deepest condolences to his family and friends from afar.

"If we fight, we fight for our rights only." ~ Stephen F. Austin
Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, Love leaves a memory no one can steal. Those we love don't go away, They walk beside us every day, Unseen, unheard, but always near, Still loved, still missed and very dear.
"The Parting Glass" Of all the money that e'er I had, I spent it in good company. And all the harm that I've ever done, Alas! it was to none but me. And all I've done for want of wit To mem'ry now I can't recall So fill to me the parting glass Good night and joy be with you all.
Oh, all the comrades e'er I had, They're sorry for my going away, And all the sweethearts e'er I had, They'd wish me one more day to stay, But since it falls unto my lot, That I should rise and you should not, I gently rise and softly call, Good night and joy be with you all.

I didn't know him personally and never met him, that I know of, but he was one of my many Alamo "friends" on FaceBook, and I feel like I know him from all the posts and comments. It's like standing with the 180-something men defending the Alamo, where even the loss of single soul has felt deeply by all. I feel poorer for never having the pleasure of meeting him.

I am stunned. A complete loss of words. Kevin added so much to our knowledge. He was and always will be one of the preeminent Alamo scholars; a giant. All of us are indebted to him. Kevin was always willing to share his knowledge with me, and also was more than happy to hear my thoughts on the subject. I will miss him.
My prayers are with Cathy and the family.
