Does anyone have access to a lot of 1836 accounts, or know where to find them

There is a book titled Texas In Revolt - Contemporary Newspaper Account of the Texas Revolution compiled by Jerry J. Gaddy and published in 1973 by The Old Army Press. It presents the whole revolution in articles from 28 newspapers around the U. S. The limitation of the book is that neither the articles' publication dates nor their sources are given, making it nye to impossible to track them down or get a grasp on how long after the event they came out. On the up-side, the book contains several excellent color plates by illustrator J. Hefter, including Mexican uniform variations and battle paintings of the Alamo and San Jacinto. A nicely bound and presented book, if you can find it.

John H. Jenkins' 10-volume set titled Papers of the Texas Revolution presents all the military correspondence extant from June 1, 1835, to December 31, 1836, and is well annotated. You won't find this set short of a library with a good Texana section or the shelf of a Texas historian, I'm afraid.

Thanks for the info, but fortunately I do own these and I probably have most of the ones that have been re published. What I need is a source that identifies which early newspapers are somewhere available.

I've found a lot of newspaper articles (some of which have been reprinted in The Alamo Journal) in the microfilm collections of my local university libraries. In addition to local newspapers, the Wright State University library, here in Dayton, OH, has microfilms of the New York Times and they have the London Times going back to 1795! That might be something to check out -- your university microfilm collections, that is. They might even be able to borrow microfilms for newspapers they don't have.
