Was Jamison planning on somehow backing up the water to form a lake or is this supposed to represent the flooded area typically shown as being directly east of the Alamo church Yes, I think it was something he was planning. Note the use of the words "contemplate" and "contemplated" in the parts of the legend referring to the lake and the ditch. With a reservoir right outside the walls, a siege army would've been much harder pressed to cut off the fort's water supply. They would've had to come within spiting distance of the fort to block the ditch. As it was, the Mexicans could block the ditch from a point much more distant from the Texians' guns.

Duuuuuuuhhhhh... Oh yea, like looking at the pictures isn't enough, now you want me to READ too?
It must have seemed like a good idea at the time. How were they to use all that water when they couldn't go out to get water from the acequia as they did on the 4th day of the seige (Feb 26), and got chased back in by the Mexican army? I suspect they changed their water collecting to the night time.
