Hi,
A couple of quick questions about the Alamo geography.
How far were there Jacales from the Southern end of the Alamo?
Was there some kind of 'villa' outside the Southern end, if so how far was that from the compound?
One would assume that the Jacales were close enough to be a threat to the defenders (i.e. allowing a forming up point for attackers) else they would not have sallied out to destroy them.
Cheers
Simon

One of the jacales the Texans burned during the 1836 siege belonged to Gabriel Martinez. Somewhere I have some notes on the deed to this property that gives its exact location: IIRC, it was on or adjacent to the location of the Menger Hotel.

Menger Hotel area sounds like a likely spot.

I'm curious about Maria Jesusa Pena's claim to have seen executions from a jacal facing the chapel. From the Labastida Representation, it looks like she might possibly have been able to see the courtyard entrance, but not inside the courtyard, so if David Crockett was killed in the courtyard, he is unlikely to be one of the men she saw executed.
